Background about Sam Hurt
|
Sam Hurt creates animation, paintings and cartoons in Austin, Texas.
He created the comic strip Eyebeam in 1979 - 1981. (It took time to evolve.) Eyebeam ran in a number of daily papers throughout the 80's.
In 1990, Sam discontinued Eyebeam to create a spinoff, Queen of the Universe, for United Feature Syndicate. Queen of the Universe featured Peaches, who was self-appointed in that role.
When Peaches ended her reign in 1992, Sam began producing animation and sculpture. In 1995, a station ID he animated for the Austin Music Network won a Telly Award, and the next year he completed a music video for the band Brave Combo. Produced by Chan Chandler, The Hokey Pokes was accepted into South by Southwest and a traveling show called The Texas Show.
Sam's art can be found at Avenue Gallery on South Congress Avenue in Austin, and a guitar sculpture he painted for the Austin Guitartown Project is currently on display in front of Austin Children's Museum.
Eyebeam is now appearing weekly in the Austin Chronicle.
