181. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Candorville 2007-07-15 war

Caption: Dr. Noodle. When people inherited millions of dollars, they had to pay an "estate tax." I was all for the estate tax. But they called it the "death tax" and I was against that. When you admitted you lost a war and left, you were "retreating." I'd feel like a loser if we retreated. But then they called it "redeployment" and I had no problem with redeployment. When people can make you change your mind just by renaming things, that means you're gullible. I don't want to be gullible anymore, doc. You want to be more perceptive? I want a new word for "gullible."

Committed genocide against Jews, Gays, Turks, etc., before becoming a blogger for the Candorville Courier. Lives at 1492 MLK Way. Candorville.

Caption: In the year 75066… Extinct Species Exhibit. Museum. You said an alpha male called "The Bush" led the Democratus Congressorus to extinction. Records are really incomplete. We think they let the unwise "Bush" grow incredibly powerful. In May 2007, The Bush issued orders giving himself vast powers in the event of something called "National Emergency." What is a "National Emergency"? Pretty sure it had something to do with an odd creature called a "Sanjaya."

Caption: In the year 75056… Extinct Species Exhibit. Museum. Records from the 21st Century are sketchy at best… ..but some believe Democratus Congressorus was doomed from the start. Apparently it did something called "giving the president a blank check in Iraq just like the last Congress." So that's what doomed that sorry species? Either that or global warming. Not sure which came first.

Caption: In other news, after having outsourced some commander-in-chief duties to a so-called "war czar"… …the president has decided to outsource other typical presidential roles. Oprah Winfrey has just been appointed "photo op czar." When asked for comment, Winfrey directed us to the new "Avoiding-the-question czar," who hasn't returned our calls.

Caption: Tony, did the president appoint this "war czar" to deflect blame for any future setbacks? That's just ridiculous, Greg. The president accepts full responsibility for the wars… …and feels Lt. General Scapegoat is filling a vital position. You mean "Lt. General Lute"? What did I say?

Caption: Britain in India. France in Algeria. USSR in Europe… Modern history tells us long military occupations of sovereign nations always fail. As your president, I've come to the only logical conclusion… You're pulling us out of Iraq, sir? I'm appointing a "war czar" to referee bureaucratic squabbles between the State Department and other agencies. Just as wise. Then I'm refusing to give our soldiers a 3.5% pay raise.

Caption: Dear Lemont Brown, On your blog, you said most Americans buy yellow "Support Our Troops" car magnets 'cause we feel guilty about not sacrificing for the war, guilty about getting tax breaks while our troops are giving their all. You said " magnets won't ruin the finish of your BMW." That's complete nonsense! I removed my magnet today and notices my BMW is missing paint where the magnet used to be! My bad. I guess have sacrificed for the war. Tap tap tap tap.

Caption: On today's Sunday morning political show, our guest in Condoleeza Rice. Thanks, Bob. Listen, Iran is a grave and gathering threat. We must confront it now, while we still can. Ms. Rice, that's almost exactly what you said in 2002 about Iraq. Some critics argue that you're using the same old script to scare Americans into another, jingoistic frenzy right before the elections. All you did was pick a different country to fear. Of course not, Bob! That's an irresponsible and inappropriate allegation. How dare you impugn my integrity, sir Sorry. As I was saying, [insert name] is a grave and gathering threat to our security. Did you just "bracket insert name close-bracket"? No! And it's irresponsible and inappropriate of you to ....

Caption: That's an interesting point you made about Star Wars, Lemont. It wasn't my observation. Thousands of innocent blue-collar workers must've been on the Death Star when the Rebels blew it up. I got it from "Clerks." Only you would think of something like that. Right now you think I'm clever. If I tell you, you'll be disappointed. Um... Thanks. ...and why would I want you to feel bad?

Caption: So I woke up from a 26-year coma and learned my Republican Party had been replaced by a big-spending, war-mongering, bill-of-rights-shredding leviathan. I started drinking to dull the pain. But I couldn't stop. The bottle took control. When it came time to vote, I hit bottom. You blacked out? I voted Democrat.

Caption: The President, in keeping with a threat of military action against any country that's destabilizing Iraq, has dispatched the USS Custer battle group to the Potomac River to intimidate himself. Response from some quarters is predictable. Neoconservatives. He's doing what he has to protect us from us. Liberals. No war for brownstone quarries. We're stealing our natural resources! Clyde. Depends. After we invade us, would we allow us to loot?

Caption: Many officials believe our ongoing occupation of Iraq is destroying that country's government. In keeping with Secretary's Rice's warning of military action against any country destabilizing Iraq, the President has deployed naval forces to Washington, D.C. Will he successfully intimidate himself, or will there be war? But first our top story: The ongoing feud between Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell apparently has nothing to do with Britney Spears.

Caption: Dear Lemont Brown, I'm sorry for stealing your mail. I was searching it for WMDs al-Qaida may have sent you, sharp objects, chemicals, invites to anti-war demonstrations … Y'know, material harmful to the United Sates and the American people. When I found your Clay Aiken Christmas CD, I couldn't help myself. I stole it. I'm sorry. Here it is back ... except for track eight which was subversive. xoxo, Federal Agent Murph.

We sent invitations to constitutional experts to discuss the matter on-air, but for some reason we've had no response. This just in: Britney Spears did not do anything stupid today.
