Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2015-06-16 Pub. Date: 2015-06-16
Image Number: 128377
Caption: I just read yet another article about teenage girls running away to join ISIS. It turns out that when ISIS advertises for new recruits on social media, they forget to mention the part about how they sell girls into slavery for as little as a pack of cigarettes. If the world can't beat them on the battlefield, maybe we can get them on false advertising. We got Al Capone on tax evasion, you know.

Caption: Minion, I've noticed several of the patrons are working on their laptops, tablets and phones. Yeah, that's what people do in cafes, boss. Are you aware, minion, that states and municipalities regularly tax people who conduct business within their borders? I don't see why the state should have a monopoly on taxation. Do you, minion? Inform the patrons they've missed the cafe's April 15th filing deadline, so there will be penalties. If the government can be "We the People," Armstrong Maynard can be "Me the Government." Very bad man.

Caption: I heard you unexpectedly owe $9000 in taxes. That's awful. But look on the bright side. What bright side? Well, you probably won't be able to pay that off before next year's taxes come due … which means they'll also charge you penalties you can't afford to pay ... which means you'll be condemned to a lifetime of ever-increasing tax debt, until they seize your assets and throw you in jail. You'll finally be just like a celebrity! That is true.

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park

Image Number: 126203
Caption: Boss … instead of sending me a tax refund, the IRS sent me a letter saying I owe them $9,000. Do you know anything about that? Nope. In a totally unrelated matter, did you know that businesses have to pay half the social security and Medicare taxes for their employees? And did you know that if a business re-categorizes workers as "independent contractors," then those workers aren't technically employees and become responsible for paying all their own taxes? Very. Bad. Man. I gave you your independence. I'm like Lincoln. You should thank me.

Caption: News. To broaden the tax base, they started making robots pay income tax. Of course! They can't vote. IRS. My first tax return and I get audited! They said everything was wrong! Despite the fact humans totally rely on us, we can't list them as dependents! They said my "net income" is not what I earned working online. And I shouldn't have used the "short" form even though I' have some bad electrical wiring! You'll do better next time ... just remember to disconnect your logic board before working with the human tax code!

Caption: Monster Tax Service. Tax season is in full swing now. It looks like the zombies had the same income as prior years but King Kong had a big increase. Kong is climbing the corporate ladder while the zombies are stuck in dead-end jobs. The werewolf had some extra income -- must have been moonlighting. The Hulk is taking some credits for going green, and Frankenstein's monster has a big medical expense deduction because of all his surgery. As usual, the Invisible Man has the cleanest return. He keeps detailed, accurate records and declares every penny of income. He's always been completely transparent.

Caption: CPA. It looks like some of our clients might have tax problems this year. Halley's Comet files a return only once every 75 years. And the black hole seems to be hiding lots of income. Neither Pluto nor Mars can pay what they owe. Pluto's assets are frozen. And Mars isn't called the "Red Planet" for no reason. I think earth might be the only one getting a refund. Of course, it has billions of dependents!

Caption: Whatever happened to your New Year's resolution to take up jogging? Nothing. I'm keen to start. It's just that January and February were too cold. March was windy. April I had taxes to do and May we had houseguests. June, July and August were way too hot. Then I got that kink in my neck, and then I couldn't find my earbuds. I see. And right now? It's getting kinda dark ... But you're keen to start. Think about it all the time.

Caption: I've figured out why a lot of America's greatest cities are in decline. Why? Because I had some time on my hands while I was doing laundry … But that's not important right now. I'm gonna smash your "Airplane" dvd. Most people think it's only about the shrinking manufacturing and tax base ... but what they don't realize is, cities are living organisms. People are blood cells. Streets are arteries. Downtowns are the heart. The newspaper is the brain. Let's talk about "Airplane" again. You can't survive without a healthy brain, unless you're Congress.

Caption: It's Dr. Sadie. Go ahead, caller. I'm devastated. My favorite fast-food place is cheating on me. That's what it feels like, anyway. It's Burger King! Burger King's moving its headquarters to Canada to weasel out of paying taxes! I feel so betrayed. How do I deal with this betrayal, Sadie?! You sound a lot like the CEO of McDonald's. McWhat? Never heard of it.

Caption: Burger King's buying a Canadian donut chain and relocating its headquarters to Canada to skip out on U.S. taxes. Amateurs. I've booked you an igloo even further north. You'll be negotiating the purchase of Blubber Brothers, a popular fast food chain among the Inuit. Congress decided to just make EVERYTHING legal, I guess. Actual Inuit stay in houses, but igloos were cheaper on Hotwire.

Caption: Tax Reform Committee. Tax Brackets. I don't think calling it the "platinum tax bracket" will make it more desirable.
