1. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Candorville 2018-10-27 supreme court justice
Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2018-10-27 Pub. Date: 2018-10-27
Image Number: 174605
Caption: What'd you mean when you called it the Republican Supreme Court? They're not all Republicans. Ever since the Republicans voted as a bloc in 2000 to end the recount and make Bush president … and with all the 5 to 4 votes … it's become increasingly clear that the court is a political body, just like Congress. There's no point in pretending it's still some unbiased arbiter of justice. Nothing's legitimate anymore. This is just like the last days of Rome.

Caption: 1982. Momma says she wants me to be the next Thurgood Marshall. So I asked who that is, and she said he desegregated the schools. And I asked what "desegregated" means, and she said "I'll tell you when you're older." It was at that point that I realized Momma was probably just making up words. What's a "Thurgood"? No, that one makes sense. What has a Thursday ever been bad?

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2016-02-25 Pub. Date: 2016-02-25
Image Number: 139581
Caption: You know what'd be cool? If the president nominated me for the supreme court. Say what? It's a lifetime appointment. Once I got the job, I could just sit there and twiddle my thumbs, and nobody could fire me. I could sit there during oral arguments and just play games all day on my iPad. Sounds like a sweet deal. Plus I'd get to wear a black robe. I could get super fat and no one would ever notice.

Image Number: 139580
Caption: I wonder who the next Supreme Court justice will be. Well, the president has a habit of disappointing liberals, so we can be sure of one thing … It won't be a radical Socialist ideologue who'll swing the court back to the left. Are you sure? I have it on good authority. How can you just sit there slurping coffee while the president isn't returning my calls?!

Caption: Boss, I don't see why I should have to wear this black armband. Out of respect, Rudy. We're in mourning. When Supreme Court Justice Scalia passed away, we lost one of the men who ruled once and for all that corporations are people and money is speech. He was, quite possibly, the greatest American who ever lived. Well ... no one can even see the armband, 'cause my shirt's black too. Off with your shirt, minion. That's an order.

Image Number: 36393
Caption: You don't believe I could be a supreme court justice! You're ruining my self-esteem! F.Y.I? … Whiny tirades don't look good on a supreme court justice's record. Thank you for your candid assessments. I will certainly consider their merits. Fine judicial temperament. And reject them for their shallow insensitivity! Rejection overruled.

Image Number: 98735
Caption: What's wrong, Lemont? I wish the Supreme Court would make up it's mind. Over the course of 24 hours, there were a few 5-4 decisions. One made it harder for minorities to vote … … But others made it possible for gay couples in California to marry, and for gay married couples to receive federal benefits. Now I don't know whether they're ENLIGHTENED by a margin of 5-4, or BUTTHEADED by a margin of 5-4.

Caption: In other news, the Supreme Court has struck down the Defense of Marriage Act. DOMA prevented gay married couples from receiving the same federal benefits as straight couples. The court ruled 5-4 that writing inequality into the federal code was unconstitutional. In unrelated news, the court ruled t5-4 that people need to stop whining about all the 5-4 decisions.

Republicans are right, La Raza is "a Latino KKK without the hoods or the nooses." ...Or the violence or the preaching of racial superiority. Other than tha-- oh, and without the long history of terrorism. Other than that, it's exactly the same.

Caption: Dear Moron, I read your blog praising Thurgood Marshal, the first black Supreme Court justice. How can anyone support a racist like Thurgood Marshall? He was blind to everything but the blacks and never gave a *%#@ about anything else. Dear reader, For future reference... TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP. ...Using the phrase "the blacks" automatically disqualifies you from complaining about racism. TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP.
