Caption: What are you doing, little buddy? Practicing my hateface. It's a mixture of disgust, snarkiness, and confusion. When I wear it, it protects me from liking something that the internet has chosen to hate. DC's got a new movie coming out: Joker. I don't want to be caught unprepared, like I was with Batman v Superman. You loved that film. Yes, but I repented.

Caption: Have you seen Avengers? Yeah, I saw that Socialist propaganda. What? Men in tights who thought they could make everything great with the snap of a finger. The world moved on when 3.5 billion people vanished. That means if they came back, they'd all be unemployed. Not everything has to be political. I turned to the stranger next to me said How are they going to pay for that?

Caption: First they came for Roseanne, and I said nothing because I wasn't a fan of her politics. Dr. Noodle. Then they came for Marvel director James Gunn, and I said nothing because I'm not really into superhero movies. Then, they came for Kevin Hart, and I said nothing because I'm more of a Chappelle fan. Then they came for one of my work friends, and I said nothing because, well ... maybe he brought it on himself. Then, they came for me. Not to self: Delete entire Twitter history ... and nobody said a word in my defense.

Caption: 1982. Did you get Superman for your birthday. Sort of. I should've been more specific. Momma gave me a video called Abar: The First Black Superman. Instead of fighting Lex Luthor, Abar the first black Superman fights housing discrimination. You should ask your momma to exchange it. I did. She said When it comes to black superheroes, it's slim pickings, whatever that means.

Caption: I can't wait to see "Black Panther"! All the critics love it! They say it's the best Marvel movie yet! They say it's the best thing in the whole entire history of things. I sure am glad they're not over-hyping this movie. I sure am glad they're not building expectations up so high that we're bound to be disappointed. You sure have been happier ever since you started this whole #sarcasm-Monday thing. Every revolutionary gets undone by his own movement.

Caption: I read that article you wrote about how DC bringing Joss Whedon to "lighten up" the Justice League movie is endemic of America's refusal to confront harsh realities. How could you, Lemont? What, you don’t agree? Remember how upset America got when Batman V. Superman didn't have enough jokes amidst all the carnage? No, I mean how could you write anything about the philandering cad after his wife published an article about how he cheated on her for 15 years! Don't say anything if you know what's good for you. I think this is a debate I can win.

Caption: You know how Marvel had heroes star in separate movies, and then they all united in "The Avengers"? And then on Netflix Marvel had separate series, and then they all united in "The Defenders"? Why don't newspaper comic strips do that? You've got a couple hundred separate characters who've been building an audience for decades. What if the protagonists from "The Oldersons," "23 Skiddoo" and "Should've Ended in 1950" got together? It'd be epic. They could call it "The Dependers." Careful, you ain't all that young neither, bruh.

Caption: Mr. Fitzhugh, I'm not happy with the changes you made to that movie trailer I produced for DC. It's supposed to be a light-hearted superhero comedy. And? Yayle. CEO of the Year 2002. And, you somehow made it look all dark and gritty and brutal. And? "Bat-Cow" is not supposed to seem this serious. Let's agree to disagree.

Caption: Whutsis? This is your wake-up call. I know you dreamt of this era ever since you were six, but, let's face it: You're tired of superhero movies. Saywhat now? Your inner child was thrilled, but now he's bored. It's like Disneyland. Asdghmplp. Yes. Remember when you were six ... remember how excited you were at Disneyland at 8am, but howl by 10pm the sight of someone in a Mickey Mouse costume made you feel homicidal? Admit it: If you see one more person in a colorful muscly costume running and jumping, your popcorn is going to taste like misery and tears. Never!!! I'll never tire of zzzzzzzz.

Caption: Have you seen Wonder Woman's costume, yet? NO - for the 50th time I ain't seen Wonder Woman costume yet. An' if you ask me that geeky #$@* one more time, I'ma smack you with Wonder Woman silver bra. GOLD! It's supposed to be GOLD! But in the picture they released from the new movie, it isn't even CLOSE to gold! It's more of a yellowish bronze. Congress should do somethin' 'bout that.

Caption: I liked it. What'd you think, Lemont? I think I'm getting old. X-MEN. I should've loved it. It was well-made. But I just sat there feeling like I've seen this same story a million times. The good guys face impossible odds and somehow triumph. That's it. Everything else is just details. I liked Wolverine. You mean you liked "Frodo-Rocky-Potter-Spider-Super-Skywalker-Doubtfire-verine."

Caption: It's been weeks. You need to learn to let go, Lemont. NO. Dr. Noodle. There are some betrayals so horrible that you should never, ever let go of your outrage. You must nurture it and feed it until it's a big fat baby of imagination. You REALLY should've come to terms with them casting Ben Affleck as the next Batman by now. Can't. When they cast Clooney, I said "never again." If I give in now, I'll look weak. Fascinating. M.A.

13. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Candorville 2013-07-07 superhero movie

Caption: I'm conflicted about all these superhero movies. On the one hand, they're a bunch of nonsense about how someone else will always come to your rescue. On the other hand, that someone else is usually a private citizen who triumphs despite the interference of government. I can't decode whether Hollywood liberals are indoctrinating our youth into a culture of dependency ... TIME. ... Or admitting that all government does is get in the way. Maybe they're just showing stuff blowing up. Yes, but blowing up liberally or conservatively?

14. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Candorville 2012-07-29 superhero movie
Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville

Caption: My brother used to collect DC Comics, while I collected Marvel. He always acted like his were so much better than mine. Dr. Noodle. "Superman could kick Spider-man's butt!" he'd say. One time he said … "What's that? Wolverine is jealous of Cyclops? Tell me about that later, I think The Flash is about to sacrifice himself to save the entire universe." But look what's happened: Marvel's superhero movies are SPANKING DC's. "Avengers" earned $50 trillion, while the last "Superman" flick made $42.50. All I asked was "Do you still feel inferior because your brother bought a house while you're still renting a studio apartment?" And all I'm saying is, you win some, you lose some.
