Caption: I liked your latest article, The Living Chain of History. Thanks. When I was a kid, I met the last person who ever interviewed a slave. That slave's grandfather was Thomas Jefferson's slave. That means I spoke with someone who spoke with someone who spoke with someone who spoke with Thomas Jefferson. I'm only three spokes removed from a conversation with one of America's Founding Fathers. That's why you wrote No wonder we do all this horrible !@#$? Our society couldn't be more than $600 spokes removed from cavemen.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville

Image Number: 173655
Caption: … So I kept crawling through the air duct, searching for a vent that'd lead me to a refugee in one of the President's baby jails. But every vent led to a different moment in time and space. A different atrocity. Air ducts sprawled and twisted and meandered in every direction. For miles. Maybe farther. My phone had long since died, and so there was no light. I was alone. I was lost. I almost gave up. But then, a whisper from somewhere in the void echoed along the cold metal ducts. t said Be still And listen of the cried of the child. Yeah, right. Since when do tiny kids cry when total strangers rip them from their parents? What? They had to have been coached. Bus.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2018-08-17 Pub. Date: 2018-08-17
Image Number: 173503
Caption: Assuming I were to buy that you accidentally crawled back through time to 1942 in an air duct … what happened next? I climbed back in, of course. Interviewing that child in FDR's internment camp filled me with a searing compulsion to interview one of the thousands in Trump's. I crept past exit after exit before I noticed they were marked. In tiny letter. One read Pennsylvania 1879-1918, Pratt's Indian Boarding Schools. The next one read 1619-1865 Slave Family Separation. On second thought, you know what they say about assuming things.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2018-07-13 Pub. Date: 2018-07-13
Image Number: 172717
Caption: At the refugee internment camp. I feel for the babies and their asylum-seeking parents. Most fled for their lives, only to have their families ripped apart. And when they're deported, many of those men, women and children will face certain doom. I've never known you to be so compassionate, boss. Most of them couldn't use any vast savings to bribe stooges - I mean, their connections on the city council - to donate a condemned storefront so they could open a new cafe once they're smuggled out of jail. VERY BAD MAN. Times like these make me conscious of my privilege.

Caption: It's been a year since that magical night we spent near the lighthouse, and in jail … but Vancouver and I have been texting and Skyping almost every day since. Now I’m going to see her again in just six hours. I bet there'll be actual electricity when we touch. It's good that you're tempering your expectations.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2015-11-30 Pub. Date: 2015-11-30
Image Number: 135923
Caption: I'm tired of people comparing Donald Trump to the fascist dictators of World War II. I mean sure, he still won't rule out forcing Muslims to register in a database. And sure, he condones it when his supporters beat and kick protesters. But what happened over there back then could NEVER happen here. Why couldn't it happen here? Because they were them and we're us.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2009-05-02 Pub. Date: 2009-05-02
Image Number: 32001
Caption: I knew it. A Black man gets elected president an' all of a sudden a southern state talks about seceding from the union. Oh, please. It's a well-known fact that this has nothing at all to do with race. A fact? Page 189,543: "Sudden talk of secession right after the first Black president takes office is purely coincidental, and based wholly on differing views about unemployment compensation." You really need to get your own copy of "The Delusional Black Man's Guide to Interpreting the Behavior of Others."

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2008-11-01 Pub. Date: 2008-11-01
Image Number: 27643
Caption: So John McCain never left you behind in Vietnam? No. I came here of my own accord after the divorce. I caught him in bed with dishonor. Embracing those who had attacked his wife and baby. Implying his opponent was a terrorist-sympathizer with inappropriate thoughts about kindergarteners. Spending the entire month of September approving campaign ads that blatantly lied. Letting his running mate incite hate at her rallies. So, I divorced him. I became a salmon, swimming upstream to the place where I was born. I take it you got custody of the metaphors. Let me know when you decide to rant, and I'll come over and interrupt.

Caption: Comedian George Carlin visits Lemont's dream. All the media and the politicians ever talk about are the things that divide us. Anything to keep us fighting with each other so they can keep going to the bank. Let's talk about the little universal moments that make us the same. Ok....but you're dead. Ever notice how awful your skin feels when you're embalmed?

Caption: Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee stunned a group of Candorville voters today… …when he turned water into wine and then ascended into the air in a halo of light. To discuss whether this violates the separation of church and state, our senior analyst, John Johnson. John? Wolf, if it turns out he used some sort of wires, there may be a case.

Caption: Mr. Cheney, why do you say the Vice President's not part of the Executive Branch? Because the VP casts tie-breaking votes in the Senate. But the Constitution talks about the VP in Article 2, the EXECUTIVE BRANCH article. That doesn't mean anything. Your office is in the White House. How'd you like to be left behind, @#$%.

Image Number: 17825
Caption: PS-911 has a new substitute teacher. The vice president's office is NOT AN ENTITY within the Executive Branch. Huh? Which means it's not bound by the same secrecy rules as the rest of the Executive Branch. So if it turns out that the VP had something to do with outing a covert CIA agent, it's no biggie. Just a hypothetical example, of course. What's Mr. Cheney talking about?

Caption: Across town, PS-911 has a new substitute teacher. 'scuse me sir, but… I'm pretty sure there's only three branches of government: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. I believe you forgot the Vice Presidential Branch. CIVICS 101. Mr. Cheney. The 4 Branches. But that's not in the textbook, sir. Go $%@# yourself.

Caption: That crazy Roxanne made a big mistake saying you can't see me again. We're best friends forever, Lemont. You don't just throw that away the minute some jealous chick tells you to. What'd you tell her? Did you tell her off? Yes, dear. Anything you say, dear. Um... pretty much. Wish I coulda seen that.

Caption: Of course, when Roxanne told you you can't see me anymore, you explained that we're best friends. Of course. And you're not gonna let some new chick come between us 'cause she had your love-child, right? Um... right. You're not gonna let some woman control you, are you? No way. Louder. NO WAY!

Caption: What's that cloud look like to you, Lemont? A magic wand. It's magically making years of White House e-mails disappear… …just as Congress finally starts investigating the administration. This game isn't' what it used to be. …Or it could be a turtle.

Caption: Doctor, why are all these White House appointees suddenly coming down with amnesia? Well Kate, amnesia's caused by damage to the brain. Strokes, head injuries, etc. Can't imagine how it could spread like this, though. I hear Congress called you to testify. What are you doing with that huge mallet, Mr. Rove?
