Caption: I got so angry about the whole health care thing. Every time government talked about expanding access to health care, people would tell me that's socialism. And socialism's wrong. I was talking to my buddies about that while we waited for our pizza to get there. Lalo said to me, "Hey, where's your $5? We're all chipping in for this pizza." So I called him a socialist. I told him I won't surrender to group-dictated pizza, I'll buy my own. And I stormed out. I see. This still doesn't explain why you didn't pay me last week. I'm saving up for free-market pizza.

Caption: You have a deep-seated aversion to … Deep-WHATED? Deep-seated. Are you sure it's not "deep-seeded'? No. I'm sure it's "deep-seated." But that makes no sense. Deep-seeded makes sense. A seed, a germ of a problem planted deep in the soil of the mind ... ... Too deep to find and kill before it sprouts into a big, gangly PROBLEM TREE. (Sigh) Ok. Your aversion to discussion emotion is so "deep-SEEDED" that it manifests itself into endless nitpicking. Gnat-picking would make more sense. I mean, only kids and dogs get nits. EVERYBODY gets gnats.

Caption: Last chance, Lemont. Take the antipsychotic pill. Your delusions about Mexico and demons and vampires will end. Life'll be normal again. Predictable. In control. Then you can learn to actively direct your life instead of passively taking whatever life hands you. I MEANT AFTER THIS ONE LAST TIME! I'm not taking that pill.

Caption: Swallow this pill now, Lemont. It's an antipsychotic. It's your last chance. Swallow it and you'll wake up in Sunnyville Sanitarium. Everything will be normal again. Don't swallow it, and your hallucinations that you're some sort of epic hero will worsen. You'll sink into paranoia, see demons everywhere, and plummet into a dark, hopeless chasm of insanity and drool. Do you have chewables? I have a gag reflex, so I'd rather ... TAKE THE PILL!

Caption: You came to me months ago for therapy. The love of your life had just found another man. You were engaged to an "evil" woman. Your career was disintegrating. You felt lost. Alone. Powerless against the dangers that encircled your hopeless world. You snapped. Your brain constructed an elaborate fantasy to process it all. You're imagining you're lost in Mexico, surrounded by wolves and demons. I"M YOUR LIFELINE, LEMONT! WAKE UP! WAKE UP AND HEAL! Sorry, can you repeat all that? I was twittering.

Caption: You're a writer. I'll use terms you'll understand to prove you're hallucinating all this. Ever heard of the concept of the "Hero's Journey"? Of course. The protagonist gets thrust into a hopeless abyss of danger against his will, but a wise dude gives him the tools to overcome his challenges. He finds peace, obtains his goals, and returns home a hero. See. You've constructed a hero's journey in your head for yourself. The hopeless abyss: you're stuck in Mexico. You've got the wise guide ... Don't flatter yourself.

Image Number: 42482
Caption: What's more likely, Lemont? That you had a psychotic break and you're lying on a gurney in Sunnyville sanitarium, hallucinating? Or that you and your therapist are stuck in Mexico, where we were kidnapped, chased by wolves, had tea with the most brutal drug cartel boss in Juarez ... ... And now you're going to interview a demon called La Llorona who steals the souls of the city's children? You're right. That's absurd. My HMO would NEVER cover hallucinations.

But has it occurred to you that maybe you had a psychotic break during our last therapy session … … and at this very moment you're trapped to a gurney in the mental care center to which I had you committed? No. Not really. Fascinating.
