1. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Candorville 2019-07-14 programmer
Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2019-07-14 Pub. Date: 2019-07-14
Image Number: 178556
Caption: According to Elon Musk, time travel is possible. I can't wait to time-travel. Elon Musk said time travel is possible? Well, not in so many words. He said it's almost a certainty that we're living in a simulation being run by our descendants in the distant future. His reasoning makes sense. In just my lifetime, we went from "Pac-Man" to "The Sims," where Sims live, work, fall in love, have kids ... and in a few decades, the Sims will be artificially intelligent and they'll actually believe they're experiencing all that. If we're artificially intelligent Sims, then anything is possible. What time travel to be possible? Just wait for the Great Programmer to install the "time travel" expansion pack. Want to live forever? Get him to install the "immortality" expansion pack. According to Elon Musk, I'm one expansion pack away from being a billionaire playboy. Nothing doing. the Great Programmer exhausted all his "miracle" expansion packs 2,000 years ago. But he's still got some "delusion" expansions. (This cartoon was originally published on 2016-07-10).

Caption: Open Mike Night Presents the Comedy Stylings of Rudy Park. Did you hear about the iPhone that hired the best wedding planner in the country because it wanted a great reception? Clap. And then there was the autocorrect programmer who got rejected when he asked a lady out on a debate. The romance didn't last long when the cable tv box found out how spacey the satellite tv box was. Get off the stage! The one who invented binary code was a real zero. Boo. Hiss. I don't even get that one, and I'm glad.

If that's the case, then God, science … EVERYTHING … could have been written - and can be arbitrarily CHANGED - at the whim of the programmer ... It's the only explanation for all these hipsters who've suddenly sprouted huge lumberjack beards.

Caption: Am I speaking with whoever programs the iPhones auto-correct feature? That would be I. You mean "that would be me." What's the problem, sir? The auto-corrections make me look like an idiot. If I'm writing a long e-mail and I mistype a word … The phone automatically replaces it with what it thinks is correct, even if it's completely wrong grammatically. Are you sure? Does "Hey, Gia, can't wait to meat you at the potty, sincerely, Lemony" sound right to you? Sounds pretty forward, if you ask me, Lemony. But I guess you'd know her better than me. "Better than I."

Caption: The Robotics Department. Seminar. Check this out. "All workers must attend mental wellness seminars." I guess that means us, too. First there's "Relating to others different from ourselves." Sounds interesting. It must be about interfacing with other operating systems. "Are you an enabler?" That one's for programmers, no doubt. "Reaching your potential." Must be about maximizing data processing rates. And they're concluding with a session on positive thinking ... I'd like to think positive all the time, but I run on alternative current.
