Caption: There are vast oceans existing under the icy surface of Jupiter's moon Europa. It's possible there's as much life in those oceans as there is in our own. Maybe more. Are you thinking that I'm thinking? I'm thinking "sexy mermaids." You? Sushi bonanza!!!

Caption: I'm 40! Oh. Well happy birthday. A lot of people wouldn't be happy about turning 40. But I'm thrilled! I've been looking forward to my midlife crisis for a long time. I've got it all planned. First I'm going to buy a sports car. Then I'm going to leave my family for someone half my age who really GETS me. Then we're going to embark on a road trip filled with booze, shoplifting and debauchery. Anyway, what's your most dangerous drink? I want something that says "I'm letting the tiger in me out to play!" We've got some week-old coffee I haven't thrown out yet. That's pretty dangerous. Gimme a large and keep it coming.

103. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Rudy Park 2016-02-23 life
Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park

Caption: How many people do you think will mourn for you when you're dead, Randy? Good question, little buddy. I live out loud. I've ridden a motorcycle across five continents, making countless friends along the way. I've conducted passionate love affairs in six languages, and taught the ancient art of seduction to sold-out crowds in two hemispheres. As a youth I delivered pizza to lonely housewives, for whom I host an annual reunion in Vegas. A man who lives his life out loud will leave thousands of mourners when he dies. What about a man who lives his life on mute?

Caption: I suppose you're wondering why I summoned you, minion. Not really, boss. I've noticed a disturbing trend: bikinis are getting smaller and smaller. So small, in fact, that they no longer hide anything. I think it's about time our café took a stand and did something to outlaw this moral decay. That's why I've arranged for you to hand "campaign donations" to several city councilmembers. This doesn't have anything to do with our declining donut sales, does it? People should never have to forego life's finer things just to go to the beach.

Caption: I wonder what life was like before the internet. What are you talking about? You don't have to wonder what life was like before the internet. You were here! We have no proof of that. I've googled myself. There's no reference to me existing prior to 1994. No blog posts, no photos, not tweets. I mean sure, you can find my birth certificate, but that means nothing. There is nothing online that was written by me, personally, prior to 1994. Stop that!!! I found a box of old polaroids, they're supposedly pictures of me as a child. But there's no proof of that. There are no photos of me that have verifiable metadata or time stamps prior to 1994. Don't look at me like that. There isn't a single link proving you existed prior to 1997 ... so respect your elders. STOP THAT!!!

Caption: I'm thinking of becoming a personal shopper. What's that? It's where you buy things for people who are too busy to go shopping themselves. I mean, I love to shop. I love it more than almost anything. They say if you love your work, you never "work" a day in your life. HOJ. To each his own, I guess. I love everything about shopping. From the seductive "open" sign, to the supple checkout lines.

Caption: If you could change just one thing about yourself, what would it be? I'd totally wish to have my brain put into a robot body. That way I could live forever. Imagine living long enough to buy an iPhone 7000. Wrong answer. An alpha male never lets on that he's concerned about mortality. Your answer should have been "nothing." The alpha male or female is not afraid of death, little buddy. I think I'd rather wait for the 7000-s. Stop it.

Caption: Come again? I said, are you seeing anyone? Seriously? … Or casually. Whatever. I mean seriously?! This was the life or death emergency you begged me to talk about? I lost my place in line for this?! Should've waited till after she got her coffee. Well it's ABOUT to be "life and death"!

Caption: Months ago, during a special episode of the Ask Sadie show, our resident octogenarian asked readers for advice about how she can deal with her midlife crisis. Here is an actual reader letter: Dear Sadie, I think you should laugh, love, and go with the flow - and do that with gusto! Don't sweat the small stuff. Kiss all the girls. Boys or whichever you prefer, but remember to laugh. - Bob. Pervert! If we allow laughing, then we'll have to allow cackling. Maybe even guffawing. I refuse to go down that disgusting slippery slope.

Caption: Sadie, have you ever known any real-life heroes? Depends. Do you mean "known" in the biblical sense? Because if so, I have quite a few stories to tell. But they're not for those with delicate sensibilities. I retract the question. Would you like to know what both George S. Patton and Mahatma Gandhi had in common? No, I really wouldn't.

Caption: Two years ago, during a special episode of the Ask Sadie show, our resident Octogenarian asked reader for advice about how she can deal with her midlife crisis. Here is an actual reader letter: Dear Sadie, I suggest having a steamy, torrid love affair that other people will disapprove of. Nothing can make you feel more alive than that. I know. Kathryn from Ontario. Freak! The fact that you apparently went half your life without having done that disgusts me. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Caption: What's wrong, little buddy? Some stupid kid called me "old." I'm young! I've been young all my life! I'm good at it. I know all about being young. I've been young since way before he was even born. He's just jealous that I'm more experienced at it than he is. Might be time for us to have a little talk.

Caption: Ages ago, during a special episode of the Ask Sadie™ show, our resident octogenarian asked readers for advice about how she can deal with her midlife crisis. Here is an actual reader letter: Dear Sadie, I suggest you have yourself embalmed so you can keep your ravishing beauty during your declining years. Dennis. Brea, CA. No need. I have an eternal, natural glow so radiant that I've never had to own a flashlight. It's only partially due to the radioactive face cream they sold in the thirties. Advise Sadie at asksadie@rudypark.com.

Caption: Good morning, Rudy. I suppose you're wondering why I've summoned you. I like licorice. It's time for your annual performance review. In short, you've done very well this year. Thank you, boss. You're friendly, punctual, and well-groomed. You follow direction acceptably, you've shown initiative, and you brew a fine cup of coffee. Those are the pluses. There's only one negative, really. Only 1.3 percent of your social media posts and comments have been about me or the cafe, and of those only 94% have been positive. An overwhelming 6% have been neutral. The only thing keeping me from firing you is, 0% have been negative. Just thought of a negative. I'm also not thrilled about that cute kitten you re-tweeted in February. I'm more of a piranha man.

Caption: On today's "Ask Sadie" Radio Hour, we'll talk about the elephant in the room: Hillary Clinton's age. And Bernie's too. Forget all this PC nonsense, I'll just come right out and say it: Their age disqualifies them. These children don't know anything about life. I bet they haven't even gotten their first hip replacement yet. Nice to know we'll always be young to somebody. Earth is young to her.

They can be very comforting in your lonely, declining years. - Antoine in Columbus. Excellent idea!!! I'd love to spend the last two decades of my life picking up poop. Especially since I have your return address. Advise Sadie (but be careful) at asksadie@rudypark.com.

Caption: Boss, I have a suggestion for you that's win-win. It'll save you thousands of dollars in health insurance premiums. Listening … If you pay to have me cryogenically frozen and then thawed every other day, I'll get to live to be 180, and you'll get an employee who's young and productive for the rest of your life. Ignoring. Don't you want to sleep on it.

Caption: What's your question for "Ask Sadie"? I've been talking to … um … "Tina" for three whole weeks … Do you think it's too early to try and get her to move out here near me? Excellent question. The answer is, we're all barreling full-steam toward death and incontinence. So seize the moment!!! That's both depressing and uplifting at the same time.

Caption: Hey, cretin. Why is the "shark is closing in" music from "Jaws" coming out of your pants? Da … duh … da … duh … I decided my life needs a soundtrack. So I programmed my phone to play specific tunes whenever certain people are nearby. Da … duh … da … duh … I resent that!! Should've been the theme from "Alien." Dadumdadumdadum!!!

Caption: I've figured out why my life is boring. Go on … There aren't any heavy musical cues to amp up the drama, or light melodies that play whenever things are going well. My life has no original score. I don't think that's it, little buddy. You think Danny Elfman's busy?
