Caption: Look at that waterfall!! It is so-o-o beautiful!! I am totally speechless! Aren't you glad I talked you into taking this kayak excursion, Earl? It's like something you see in a travel brochure, but you can't believe it's really real, but then you see it and it's even better. I've learned over the years not to believe you when you say you're speechless.

Caption: I think my watch has stopped. What time do you have, Earl? Time? Someone once said time is like the landscape we're traveling through on a train. All we can see is what's outside the window. Today it was Omaha. Yesterday it was Chicago. Tomorrow, who knows? But it's really all there, all those places, all at once. I think Earl's train went off the track way back in Schenectady.

Caption: This yard looks like a mess, Earl! Henry David Thoreau said, "It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." Me? I see a wild, untamed area of indigenous flora, flourishing and thriving as nature intended. Yeah, and I see a husband who's full of baloney.

Caption: So, your goal is to create an anti-garden? Exactly. I'm setting it free to follow it's own destiny. I mean, who am I to tell mother nature what this spot on Earth should look like? You're right, Earl. That's my job. Now get rid of these weeds.

Caption: I decided it was time to get out the weed-whacker and do a little trimming. The darn thing's not working, though. It's probably just out of string. Yeah. That could be it. Or it could be the fact that it's a metal detector, not a weed-whacker.

Caption: Ha! Dogs are always making fools of themselves trying to be useful. Cats are above all that. We know that our mere presence justifies our existence. Still, we don't mind occasionally helping out a bit if it's not too inconvenient. I do what I can to improve the scenery around here.

Caption: Are you planting a tree, Grampa? Yep. It's a pecan tree. I'm actually planting it for you. For me? Yes. I'm going to all this trouble just for you. By the time this tree is mature enough to produce any pecans, I'll probably be dead and gone. But that's okay because you'll be here to enjoy the fruits of my labors. I don't like pecans. You're welcome.
