Caption: Do you think clouds care about the government shutdown? Do you think the sun cares whether we believe we're contributing to climate change? Do you think the Milky Way cares whether we ever stop killing each other? We're all part of a vast cosmos, Susan. If the cosmos doesn't care about the little things, I don't see why I should. I still think you should open that letter the IRS sent you.

Caption: When the President refused to exted the Bush tax cuts, he explained why and that made sense to me. Dr. Noodle. But then when he extend them, I was confused. When the President insisted on a public option for health care, he explained why and that made sense to me. But then he abandoned the public option. I was confused. When the President insisted that the very rich, not just the poor, have to sacrifice to help balance the budget, that made sense to me. But then he signed a bill that didn't ask the very rich to pay even a single cent more in taxes. And you're confused. Not anymore. I miss being confused.

Caption: Lemont Brown interviews President Obama's "Evolving Position on Marriage." What does the President think about New York legalizing gay marriage? The issue of marriage equality is best handled by the states. But … if there's one thing the Civil Rights Movement taught us, it's that only the federal government can stop the states from denying minorities their equal rights. SEGREGATION NOW, SEGRATION FOREVA! Stop that.

Comic/Cartoon: Candorville

Caption: I'm tired of people saying that Republicans are being heartless when they try to strip labor unions of the right to collectively bargain. States are facing huge budget deficits caused by their need to provide expensive vital services, coupled with billions of dollars of tax giveaways to corporations and low property taxes. Sure, labor unions seem to agree that their members have to take pay cuts and contribute more to their retirement and health-care plans, but ... they don't want to give up their right to demand safe working conditions and whatnot. Do you know how expensive it is to provide safe working conditions? Less expensive than treating cancer? A little asbestos never hurt anyone.

Caption: What's so funny? Say it again, Phobos. Ok … The next election's two whole years away. Shouldn't we take a break … leave people alone until then … so they can govern rationally, deal only with the most essential issues, and make practical decisions for the good of all, based only on facts and on a dispassionate study of empirical data? Fear, Inc. ... It was funnier the first time I said it. Whatever. Where are we on the gay marriage repeals?

Caption: Election season is here. What do you think about the candidates? Vote for. Doctor Jekyll is pretty good. But Mister Hyde is on the same ticket. Vote Dr. Jekyll. Vote. And Frankenstein has more brains than the other candidates. But I think transparency in government is the most important issue. So I'm supporting The Invisible Man. Vote for me! The choice is clear.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville

Image Number: 38664
Caption: Random man on the street, explain to me why you think health care reform is "socialism." Simple, Bob. Anytime BIG GOVERNMENT steps in and keeps the free market from doing whatever the @#$% it wants to us, that's socialism. Like the other day, I was having a heart attack ... called 9-1-1. County wanted to send me an ambulance to take me to the nearest cardiac unit. That's socialism. No way do I want government deciding where I'm going to go. I see. Go on ... I called several different ambulance companies, said I wanna go to the best cardiac unit in America, and asked them to submit competitive bids. And then? I died before any of them got back to me, but at least it was MY CHOICE.

Caption: The Senate considers bailing out another failed industry. Let's not pussyfoot around the REAL issue: The labor unions are milkin' you dry. Elite workers rakin' in upwards of $9 an hour… Before we give you a dime of taxpayer money… …The unions should be crushed, disemboweled and shot out of the nearest cannon into the gates of hell. Dilbert. Uh...I didn't know the comic strip industry HAD a union. H. Freeman. That's because you're a tool of our corporate overlords.
