Caption: There must have been a moment long ago when it all could have done differently, Rosencrantz … When the living could've chosen to be cooperative instead of predatory. Kind instead of cruel. Selfless rather than self-centered. It was probably when the first fish emerged from the sea to walk on land. If only it had been Lucy the fish instead of Sadie. Lucy never should've trusted that Sadie.

It was only a matter of time till you realized that those other women were really no big deal after all. Phil Anders. Listen to me. I. Called. You. By. Accident. I butt-dialed you. Give us a kiss.

Caption: If a person's lucky, they'll have two, maybe three moments in life that defy explanation. Moments so magical they make you believe in destiny. It happened with Vancouver that night. She leaned back. She pulled me close … and in that ephemeral moment just before our lips united at last ... there was electricity. Literally. It was real. We felt it. We saw it. We knew in that moment it was because we were meant for one another. Actually, it was because you'd just walked over her carpet and had built up a static charge. Zip it, Neil Degrasse Tyson, this is MY story.

Caption: What do you think the future's going to be like, Clyde? Just like now, only I'll have fries. Katrina's Ghost. I don't mean "The Future" as in fifteen minutes from now. I mean "the future" as in 200 years from now. Do you ever think further than fifteen minutes ahead? Do you ever think about the future of mankind? Would thinkin' 'bout that get me fries? Not everything in life is about fries, Clyde. I beg to differ, bruh.

Caption: I'm reading a book called "Leviathan Wakes." It tells a story from the perspective of two different protagonists. Dr. Noodle. Neither knows just how much their stores are connected. It's like I've always thought: what if I'm not the only protagonist in my own life? What if there's somebody out there who's living the other half of my story? What if we're both on separate roads that are fated to converge at some pivotal, all-important moment? And what if I don't recognize this person's significance to my life and so we fail to connect?! I still think boring everyone you meet with your whole life story is a bad idea. But if I don't recognize their significance, they might recognize mine.

Like I have an important part to play in some big deal … … But I've been sitting in this lobby a long time with my briefcase, waiting to be called into the meeting room. I have a feeling they've forgotten I'm out here. I'm sorry, are you still talking?

Caption: Well … The great author in the sky has given us another year, brotha. What're you gonna do with it? Are you gonna be a more humble person? Are you going to try and figure out why you're here - what you're supposed to accomplish? Are you going to shed yourself of anyone and anything in your life that doesn't help you fulfill your purpose on Earth? Are you going to use every day as a chance to become who you're meant to be? I'ma take a nap. (Sigh.) I guess some people are meant to be couches.

Caption: I feel the spell about to be broken, Rosencrantz. What? It's been a very good day. Nice breeze, good company. Thank you. That means something bad's about to happen. We must pay for every measure of pleasure with an equal amount of pain. I'm still not letting you thump me on the head with your shoe. Rosencrantz, don't be an idiot. Do you want something even worse to happen? (Originally published 2011-07-29).

Caption: Maybe you and Lemont aren't destined to be together after all. You're so very different. He's a sci-fi fanatic, but you watch Lifetime movies. He loves Korean food, but you can't stand it. He's got a two-year-old, but you don’t want kids. How on Earth do you know all this? You're a private person, but he blogs about everything.

Caption: It seems like the "adjustment bureau" is just a movie version of Fringe's "The Observer" characters. Men in suits and fedoras who guide everyone's fate. I know what you're gonna say: "But Lemont, Fringe is about a war between two alternate realities." Hey! Stop! You shedding cool points like dandruff! ... And "but Lemont, the observers only make sure the most pivotal events happen, whereas the Adjustment Bureau controls every little thing." Sometimes it's nice to just stretch out.

Caption: Doc, I don't think the medicine you gave me is working. My … visions … are returning. I keep imagining Roxanne is an evil vampire who used me to father a child, in order to fulfill an ancient prophecy, become a daywalker, and conquer the world. And I keep imagining some guy named Saxon Kenchu is her half-human, half-vampire son who tried to help me defeat her but ended up suffering a fate worse than death. I warned you the Flintstones antipsychotic chewables might not work. BUT I CAN'T SWALLOW PILLS!

Caption: The other day I saw a wolf roaming the street at night, all alone. Which was weird, 'cause there ain't been no wolves in Candorville, not since 1806 when Jebediah oldman made that fateful bet. If Jeb beat the wolf king at thumb wrestling, all the wolves'd leave. If the wolf king won, they could eat all the people. As fate would have it, wolves ain't that bright, and wolves don't have opposable thumbs. Will stop following you while telling nonsensical stories, for $$.

Caption: I'll start with the original "Star Wars." Then "Empire." That way you preserve the big surprise about Luke's dad. Then "Episodes 1&2." "The Clone Wars" cartoons, and then "Episode 3." They'll be like a flashback someone tells Luke while he's healing from the whole hand thing. They'll give time to build anxiety over Han's fate, and they'll set up Vader's redemptive journey. Which I'll then finish by watching... ...That's right, baby, "Return of the Jedi." Dios mio. Not at all what I meant when I said "You should write a five-year plan." Pshht. Five years? I could do it in five days. There are ways. You don't even wanna know.

Caption: Why so down, Lemont? I bough the crazy vegetarian chick's ring today, Susan. Oh. It just hit me: This is really happening. I'm really getting married. I've been in denial all this time, floating around in blissful ignorance, oblivious to the gruesome fate toward which I was plummeting. That's not like you at all. Luckily they took Visa, so I didn't actually have to pay for it.
