Caption: Even after all these years, momma still won't tell me who my father is. All I know is, she met him when she was a waitress at a casino in Vegas, back in the seventies. I feel like she owes it to me to tell me. Your mom gave you life, raised you all by herself, worked from sunup to sundown to give you everything you needed ... Yeah, she really does "owe" you something. Glad you agree.

Caption: You ever think maybe the world would've been better off if we'd lost the Revolutionary War? Seriously? You gonna say that right before the Fourth of July? It's just a thought experiment. You scared of thought experiments? C-Dog ain't scared of nothin'. All right. Let's say France never helped us win the revolution. We'd have lost. Britain probably still would've freed the slaves in 1833, so ... No civil war. No backlash to reconstruction, so ... no KKK. France wouldn't have drowned in debt. Their monarchy would've lasted longer, so ... no Napoleon. No Napoleon, no threat uniting German nationalists, so ... no World War I or II ... no Hitler. No Manifest Destiny, so no genocide of Native Americans. The UK wouldn't have turned to the Middle East and Africa to replace its lost holdings, so ... no carving up the Ottoman Empire, no chaos in the Middle East, and no ISIS. Bruh ... if you don't wanna loan me $20 for fireworks, just say so. We'd probably still have black licorice. No getting around that.

Caption: Today on the Ask Sadie Show, we'll be addressing one single topic: Sandwiches. Specifically, we'll talk about how single-payer health care would put tons of spending money into the hands of the "sandwich generations." They'd pay a little more in taxes, but they wouldn't have to go deep into debt to be able to put their elderly parents in nursing homes. They could buy products and take vacations and put their sniveling brats through college, and still put the old folks in a nice, safe facility. Which is why we must defeat single-payer whenever it rears its ugly head! (#I'm-not-going-anywhere-you-ungrateful-twerps!)

Caption: Hello, you've reached Sisyphus Mortgage. This is Ryan. How may I hinder you? I just got an ad saying you specialize in loans for self-employed people. I'm self-employed. I've taken all the tax deductions the law allows, so my income appears to be much smaller than it actually is. Is there any type of loan I'd qualify for? Of course. If you've got 24 months of bank statements that show you can easily afford the monthly payments, you may qualify for a "bank statement loan." I could get you bank statements. Great! ... Oh, one more thing, we also need to see receipts proving that your expenses match your bank accounts. You do? ... O ... K ... I'll see if I can dig those up. Great! ... Oh, one more thing, we'll also need to see your business license. Ryan, how many "one more things" are there? Before I can answer that, I just need one more thing ...

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville

Image Number: 156465
Caption: So what if you can't get a mortgage to buy a house? If you really want to move to Canada, why not just rent? Because I've live in the same tiny $600 rent-controlled apartment my whole adult life, I've saved every month for decades, and I haven't bought a new computer since 2003. I've done all this so that one day I could afford to buy a house and have something to leave my son. Spending fifty billion dollars a month on rent might make that a little hard to do. You're exaggerating ... a little.

Caption: I met with my guidance counselor today. I think I'll major in music theory in college. That way, I can totally justify playing in a band while racking up $100k in student loans and graduating with minimal marketable skills. Well, at least he has a plan ... It could use some tweaking. Caption: Spluble Glupth. Thanks, Biff, for that weather update. Scattered showers with a 20% chance of global warming over the weekend. In alley news, some stupid boys were seen poking around in people's trash. They found an old bird cage and pretended it was full of tiny dinosaurs. Although most dinosaurs actually were small, it is an established fact that they never went into bird cages. What causes such intensive stupidity? Is it evidence of a spiraling national decline, as some have suggested? The answer is no. According to our data, shown on this graph, the stupidity index is independent of other factors. Stupidity level of boys. National debt. Cost of living. Cold war. I'm Trish Tringle and that's the news. Coming up, Biff with sports. I Witness News. Mlmbl.

Do what we did in the old days … scrimp and save and buy a house for cash. And if you can't then you move somewhere cheaper. And if there is nowhere cheaper, start a rumor of a nearby toxic waste dump and MAKE IT cheaper. Yes, ma'am.

Caption: It's weird … A lot of people say they get depressed during the holiday season. But I always feel blue afterward … On January first -- because the celebrating has come to an end. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve are over … And all the feasting, gift-giving and excess are just memories. Don't be sad, son. You know, for me the depression sets in after the holidays are over, too ... Really? You bet. Sometime between weighing myself on the bathroom scale and the arrival of our credit card bill.

Caption: No, momma, I don't think you should get a reverse mortgage. Why? Well, you know Steve Mnuchin, the guy Donald Trump appointed Treasury Secretary? The bank he ran used to convince old people to get reverse mortgages, then they foreclosed on a lot of those houses for the tiniest of reasons. They foreclosed on one home for an unpaid bill of 27 cents. Yes, I know Magnum P.I. said it's not a scam to steal your house. But if they have to SAY that ... (Sigh) ... Yes, momma, I know how you love Magnum P.I.
