Caption: I read an article on Candorville.com about how we might not be the first advances civilization on earth. There's evident that mankind was far more advanced than we thought, but it was blown back into the stone age by some huge cataclysm. A lot of scientists disagree, but why else would mankind build 200 immense underground cities all around the world, if not to survive a cataclysm? I'm starting to think you just like saying the word cataclysm. I also read that we're cataclysmically overdue for another cataclysmic-level cataclysm.

Caption: I'm thinking of moving to New York so I can vote for Governor Cuomo in the primaries. Cynthia Nixon is his challenger. You know … Miranda from Sex and the City. She's the progressive, and he's the establishment Democrat. I've always wanted to be part of an establishment. You sure this isn't 'cause you're still mad at how Miranda treated Steve on Sex and the City? You don't tell a man to hurry up mid-lovin'. Who does that??

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park

Image Number: 168938
Caption: I suppose you're wondering why I summoned you, minion. Not really, boss. I've noticed a disturbing trend: Bikinis are getting smaller and smaller. So small, in fact, that they no longer hid anything. I think it's about time our café took a stand and did something to outlaw this moral decay. That's why I've arranged for you to hand "campaign donations" to several city councilmembers. This doesn't have anything to do with our declining donut sales, does it? People should never have to forego life's finer things just to go to the beach.

Caption: Where were you the last few days, little buddy? San Francisco. I heard new robot security guards were harassing the homeless to keep them from sleeping on city streets. So I went out there hoping to be recruited by any time-traveler who came back in time to lead a resistance cell. I knew it was a long-shot. But I'd have kicked myself if I didn't go and the time-traveler did show up. Hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Caption: Did you know there's a growing worldwide system of rails and roads that all lead to China? Did you know China's on the verge of dominating the industries of the future? Did you know China's built fifteen mega-cities? It's like having fifteen New Yorks. Did you know China's building immense undersea tunnels and super-fast high speed rail to create the world's first super-cities that'll be six times the population of New York? Oh, well ... I'm sure we're still number one in all the areas I didn't google. I know we're still number one in thinking we're number one.

Caption: Boss? Why'd a truck just deliver fifty boxes of kimchi to the café? It's just good business, minion. Did you know that before he was president, Donald Trump was known for failing at least as often as he succeeded? Six bankruptcies … Trump Airline … Trump Steaks ... Who else could manage to bankrupt a casino in Atlantic City? You never know if he's going to turn a winning situation into a total flop. Odds are 50/50 we'll see North Korean tanks rolling into town any day now, and you can bet they'll be manned by hungry troops. Opportunist!

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2017-06-12 Pub. Date: 2017-06-12
Image Number: 159163
Caption: Can I ask you something man-to-man? What's up? Let's say you're delivering your usual enormous campaign contributions to the members of the city zoning board to ensure no potential competitors can open a café within 50 miles of our own. And let's say you realize you've fallen madly in love with one of the cronies you're bribing. Does it violate any sort of guy code to pursue a romance with you own crony? Very long talk ahead.

Caption: Meanwhile, in the big city across the bridge … I have to confess … I'm hurt, Lemont. Zzz. How come you've never mentioned that your old college roommate, Rudy Park, is an operative for the Russian government? I thought we were close. Click. Wha -- Who's there? What're you doing here? Federal Agent Murph, and that's classified. I'm moving to Canada.

Caption: You wanted to see me, boss? Rudy, did you realize its illegal for a boss to tell his minion how to vote? Wink wink wink … and that therefore, I would never tell you to vote for my friend, Patsy Marionette, for city council? Wink wink wink. I would never order you to donate to Patsy campaign fund either, as if your job depended on it. Wink wink wink wink wink wink wink wink wink wink wink wink wink. That's good to know. I believe we're on the same page here. Wink.

Caption: Hey Rudy, you've been in there for over an hour. You ok in there? I think I'm dying here. What? D'you need me to call 911? I don't think that'll help. I just need to build more pikemen and cavalry and buy a defense boost before the enemy's march reaches my city. Get off your phone!!! I'm saving the kingdom here! It's important!

11. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Rudy Park 2016-08-26 city

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park

Caption: You called me, boss? Yes. I overheard you talking to patrons about all the new planets we've found. I want you to stop doing that. At least until I'm done buying up as much of that real estate as I can. I don't need any competitors driving up the prices. Very bad man. When the hipsters run out of cities to gentrify here, my properties on Gliese 581c are going to make a killing.

Caption: $12 for bottled water?! Haven't you been watching the news? America's aging pipes are leaching chemicals into the water that cause horrific illnesses. The entire city of Flint was poisoned by lead, leading to developmental damage in children and probably causing an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease. All bottled water is tested for lead. But ours is special, it's guaranteed to be 100% free of certain other chemicals too. Our bottled water is also 100% free of adamantium, NTH metal, vibranium, kryptonite and dilithium. No other bottled water on the market makes that claim. Just give me a coffee. Regular or guaranteed aniumanium-free? Very bad man.

Caption: I'm sorry, can you repeat your order? Why? Because when I was about to hit "new order," an alert popped up … telling me my city was being marched on by an enemy alliance. Naturally, I had to launch the game and send all my troops, hero and resources to hide in Bajor, a friendly neighboring city. Congratulations! your troops have DESTROYED Bajor. This is probably how the Israeli-Palestinian thing started. What? Where's my coffee?!

Caption: Rudy, how's that print order coming? What print order? The "House of Java" flags I asked you to have printed. You were serious? Of course. Britain exiting the European Union was just the first domino to fall. Spain might be next , then Finland, then Foreignvania and all the other Anias. And that's just for starters. It's going to spread. My sources tell me the Maldives will be next to split up. Each coral atoll will become a separate and distinct Maldo. "Maldo"? From there the contagion will spread to Australia, which will become a collection of separate city states, some run by man, some run by marsupials. My calculations show it'll eventually spread to North America, where we'll disintegrate into thousands of tiny fiefdoms ruled by whoever is first to plant a flag. Are you sure you didn't forget to carry the "one"?

Caption: Sadie, I just heard they discovered lots of ancient cities buried hundred of years ago in the jungles of Cambodia. They've each got weird geometric patterns outlining what may have been gardens. But now one really knows what they were used for. I guess what I'm asking you is ... what were they used for? Y'know, since you were there to see them in their prime. They were used for ritual sacrifices of dullards. For educational purposes, I shall now perform one.

Caption: Archaeologists discovered several enormous ancient cities buried under the jungles of Cambodia. That means the Khmer civilization was the largest empire on earth from the 9th to the 12th centuries. That changes everything about our conception of the Middle Ages. What was your conception of the Middle Ages? Well ... it was ... well, knights, maidens, dragons ... mostly dragons. And elves.

Caption: Come in, minion. Did you read that Lemont Brown article from Candorville.com? The one about Delores Park in San Francisco? Apparently you can now reserve a patch of grass for seven hours if you go to the city's website and pay up to $250. If anyone trespasses on your grass, security guards will roust them. This is the biggest breakthrough in the separation of the classes in ages. I'm going to make all our booths and toilets paid-reservation-only. Very bad man.

Caption: The president's sending heavy weapons to Europe to counter Russia. Do you know what this means, Randy? It means there's still a chance I'll live to see the postapocalyptic world the movies promised me when I was a kid. I'll get to drive buggies around deserts, play hide and seek with mutant barbarians in the ruins of major cities ... You think it'll be hard to charge my phone in the postapocalypse? Probably, since it'll be melted into your hand.

Caption: You want to see me, boss? Yes, minion. Something fishy is going on. Donald Trump lost the Iowa caucuses. That morning, he held an event in "Waterloo, Iowa." It can't be a coincidence. The universe apparently has a sense of irony. No tyrant, demagogue, or would-be despot is safe. I'm going to give you a bag of money. You're going to go to city hall and bribe my lackeys to change the name of our street to something other than "Indicted Ave." Very bad man.
