Caption: Ask Sadie. Our resident surly lass answers actual reader questions sent to rudy@rudypark.com. Dear Sadie, My husband forgot my birthday. There was no cake, no trip, no party, no nice little gift, no card, no "happy birthday" whispered in my ear … NOTHING. How do I let him know how deeply that hurt me? - Hurt in Harford. Excellent question. It reminds me of the time I hunted down a wild boar in the Serengeti in 1951. Decades earlier, when I was but a young lass, nobody remembered my birthday, or so I thought. that night, dear old Grandmother Cohen surprised me with a loaf of bread topped with a flaming licorice stick. Just as I blew out the licorice, it happened: A young wild boar came out of nowhere, darted across our shack, grabbed my loaf in its slobbery may and escaped into the dark, stormy night. I tracked that boar for twenty years across seven continents before I finally caught him. Speaking of which, it's time for my daily ham sandwich. Anyway, what were we talking about? Ask Sadie, baby!

Caption: Remember how you advised me to get a dangerous hobby to build up my self-esteem and impress people? Well, all the dangerous hobbies were already taken. You wrestle alligators … Armstrong skis down a pile of his money … Without a helmet. Even that ancient hag Sadie has a dangerous hobby. Every year, in violation of both common sense and local fire safety ordinances, the old lady lights all the candles on her birthday cake. I heard that!!! Fun fact: The 20th century was one of the most brutal in history. I witnessed most of it. And I took notes!! I've taken up "Sadie-taunting." You'd be better off with the alligators.

You might be interested in my answer to "what's your name?" That's only a $12 question. I might have $45 in birthday money at home. I was just kidding, child. It's actually $55.

Caption: I imagine at your age, you attend a lot of funerals, Sadie. Oh, yes, they're quite lovely. As a child, I attended birthday parties. As a lass, I attended sweet sixteens. As a young adult, I attended weddings. As a mature woman, I attended retirement parties. Now, in the twilight of life, I attend funerals. "Deathday" parties, if you will. And it's beautiful. Because it's all come full circle? Because for once, I don't have to buy the %$&*@ a gift.

8. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Rudy Park 2016-05-13 birthday
Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2016-05-13 Pub. Date: 2016-05-13
Image Number: 143043
Caption: I heard Rudy was asking everyone about their earliest memories. He was, but he got distracted and forgot about it. That's a shame. I was hoping he'd get around to me. I have the oddest "earliest memory" and I wanted to share it. It's just as well, I guess. Knowing some man secretly attended my first birthday party has caused me to question my parentage all these years. Especially since Mother Park made me promise not to tell father the potted plant was actually J. Edgar Hoover. It's always wise to let sleeping dogs lie.

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2016-05-10 Pub. Date: 2016-05-10

Caption: What's the earliest memory you have, Armstrong? Well … I was very, very young … Everything was dark. I was in some sort of liquid and there was a flexible, hose-like thing connecting my belly button to some sort of sack that was enveloping me. I heard a woman's beautiful muffled voice singing "Row row row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily merrily merrily merrily, life is but a dream." And I decided then and there I would one day corner the boat market. Very bad man.

Caption: I'm 40! Oh. Well happy birthday. A lot of people wouldn't be happy about turning 40. But I'm thrilled! I've been looking forward to my midlife crisis for a long time. I've got it all planned. First I'm going to buy a sports car. Then I'm going to leave my family for someone half my age who really GETS me. Then we're going to embark on a road trip filled with booze, shoplifting and debauchery. Anyway, what's your most dangerous drink? I want something that says "I'm letting the tiger in me out to play!" We've got some week-old coffee I haven't thrown out yet. That's pretty dangerous. Gimme a large and keep it coming.

Caption: I'd like ten cupcakes for my boy's first birthday party. Are you certain, fine sir? Your little boy's first birthday party is something that'll never come again. You want to make sure he'll always remember how much his poppa adored him, don't you? Do you want him to see photos of the party one day and think his daddy only had cupcake-sized love for him? If you really loved him, you'd surprise him with our five-foot-tall oversized cake with animatronic dancing gerbil candles and gummy penguin lollipop frosting. How much? You mean, how much will your boy love you for making his childhood so magical? I hate you. But ask yourself this: Do you love your son more than you hate me? Very bad man.

Caption: What can I get you, sir? The usual. I'm sorry, I don’t know what that is. I don’t think we've ever met. What the- of course we have! From the moment you awoke in this realm, you've known me. When you took your first step, I was there. When you lost your first tooth, I was with you. When you thought you were alone on your 20th birthday, 'twas I who was your companion. I have been known by many names. Chronos. Janus. Prajapati. Kala. Eshu. Tardis. ... But you've always known me by another name ... ... "Father Time." Never heard of you. Stupid youth-obsessed Botox culture. You look awfully familiar.

Caption: You're on, caller. What's your problem?! Today's my dad's 90th birthday. I got him a cake. I used 90 candles to spell out "Happy 90th, from your 'goof-up' son who can't ever do anything right. I organized this whole huge party. NOW what do you think of me, pop?" The candles flared up and burned his house down. What's your question, caller? Should I tell him I forgot to renew his home insurance?

Caption: I heard nearly 5,000 people wished you a happy birthday back whenever your birthday was. How does it feel knowing your 5,000 Facebook "friends" you've never actually met remembered your birthday, but none of us real people did. Wound, meet salt. Real people are clearly overrated.
