Caption: They're puzzled by some apps down there. The carbon atoms can't find an app for the sort of dating they do. Both oxygen and nitrogen thought "Airbnb" would be mostly about them. And the gym rat muscle fiber was confused by the name "Lyft." What about music apps? Melatonin expected something different from "Napster," and likewise with the measles virus and "Spotify."

Caption: Fe is the chemical symbol for iron, atomic number 26. Sometimes the periodic table of elements seems like high school, full of cliques and gossip. Hydrogen and oxygen atoms spend lots of time hanging out together while elements like Argon and Radon are loners, never bonding with others. Gold, Au, and Silver, Ag, are the rich elements, but I honestly think iron the the most popular. I can't believe iron thinks "rusty" is a term of affection!

And a proton and cornea cell have teamed up to teach a class on staying focused and positive! Is the helium atom participating in any of this? No, he thinks he's above it all!

Caption: It's college orientation time. The brain cell is attending an elite academic university, and the hormones and endorphins are going to party schools. The muscle cell earned an athletic scholarship. And it looks like the DNA molecule has already picked a major. The DNA has life planned out. It's chemically active down there. The individual atoms are excited, but also seem a bit sad. Of course! Going off to college is an emotional time for them. Old bonds are breaking and new ones are being formed!

The carbon dioxide is complaining about the negative press coverage its getting, and the chlorophyll is pushing a green agenda. The individual atom candidates are receiving lots of attention --- their truthfulness is being questioned. Voters must have heard that "atoms make up everything"!

Caption: It's busy at the amusement park. The adrenaline's been having fun on the roller coaster, but the stomach cell looks queasy on the tilt-a-whirl! The hormones are going into the tunnel of love again, and the helium atoms are heading toward the complaint booth. They're saying the parachute drop didn't work for them. Any other problems down there? Yeah, the white blood cells are being kicked out. Apparently they tried to attack the staph!

Caption: Adrenaline is flowing down there with lots of last-minute, panicked Christmas shoppers! The DNA is frantically looking for heirlooms that'll be passed on in succeeding generations. It seems no price is too high for the helium atom - it's buying everything! Meanwhile, the neutron can't charge and hasn't been able to buy a single gift! Tempers are getting short! A big nerve angered other shoppers by blatantly cutting in the checkout line! And there's a quarrel over a parking spot with a white blood cell threatening a bacterium if it doesn't leave! The brain cells appear to be the only ones enjoying the holidays! Of course, they did all their shopping in September!

Caption: It's a football Sunday down there! The endorphins stayed at the tailgate party and are missing a great game! Seconds to go, and our team is down by two points! The coaching staph has sent in a play, and the neuron is calling the signals. The defense expected an adrenaline rush, but they lofted a high pass to a helium atom! Time for one more play! Yay! Woo hoo! Are they close enough to try a field goal? I think so, they're surrounded by blood cells! Yes! They're in the red zone!

A sodium atom got bath salts, and the genes had a family portrait taken. Frank, the neuron didn't get a gift for his mother. No, he didn't but he always sends a nice message!

Caption: Broker. Stocks. Bonds. It looks like a chaotic financial market down there. The gene for height is short selling. An oxygen teamed up with a couple hydrogens to make bonds and create liquid assets. Those simple sugars are buying fast-rising energy stocks that'll probably crash later. And the helium atom is selling everything. I think he has to make a balloon payment!

The individual atoms are looking for bonds!

Caption: Microbe Humor. The latest issue of "Bioweek" just arrived. There's an article about cloning that was duplicated from another magazine ... and an uplifting story about two endorphins that'll bring a smile to your face ... How about my favorite feature, "Ask Biotherapist"? The usual stuff ... a carbon atom going through a half-life crisis ... a cholesterol molecule who gets too attached to other molecules ... an adrenaline molecule who wants to slow down his life .. and there's a cover story on helium. Hah! How interesting can helium be? They say once you pick it up, you can't put it down!
